David Johnson—honored for his diligence.
Edmond resident honored for their diligence.
The character trait of diligence, “investing ones time and energy to complete each task assigned,” prompted long-time Edmond resident and journalist Carol Smaglinski, to nominate Johnson for his service toward the non-profit chamber group, “Brightmusic”
“What David Johnson has done for Brightmusic is just incredible,” wrote Smaglinski. “He has given his full attention and devotion to this project.”
Formerly from Bartlesville, Johnson is now a retired attorney who returned to Oklahoma after a 31-year career with law firms in Washington, D.C., and serves as the president of the board of directors of Brightmusic. As a child, he said, he studied piano for 11 years, served as a choral accompanist and also volunteered for several international competitions. Now here, he has been doing the grant writing, and many other everyday functions for the Brightmusic chamber group, which highlights many of the best musicians from the Philharmonic.
“A very sharp, dedicated individual,” added Smaglinski, “he lives and breathes it and since he is a musician himself, he understands what the others are going through and there is so much that people don’t know when they come out on stage from acoustics, personal problems, financing, publicity, and opening up his own home to the players and on and on.
The Benefit: “Lively and with his expert qualifications and great confidence, while caring for his immediate family,” wrote Smaglinski, “David Johnson unselfishly has devoted a great amount of his free time to give fellow Oklahomans the opportunity to listen and enjoy live marvelous chamber music without any admission fee, and he deserves the highest credit for all the benefit from his diligence.”
