Dr. Gayle Kearns, Champion of Character

On behalf of the board of directors of the Character Council of Edmond and The City of Edmond, we would like to congratulate you for being selected as a “Champion of Character,” representing the character trait of orderliness (vs. confusion).

The council is a grassroots, non-profit, organization committed to creating a citywide initiative to build Edmond into a “City of Character.” The group believes that the character of a nation can only be strengthened one person at a time, one community at a time. Toward that end the Character Council of Edmond seeks to recognize residents who demonstrate character, as witnessed by those who have been affected and influenced.

You exemplify the character trait of orderliness (vs. confusion): Arranging yourself and your surroundings to achieve greater efficiency. The trait is exemplified by: setting priorities and standards and working efficiently, which enables you to be available to help and benefit others.

“Dr. Gayle Kearns is the female equivalent of Troy Aikman. She has ‘run more interference’ and ‘carried more touchdowns to the end zone’ than any other professor at UCO! It does not matter if it is a colleague or a student who is in need — she will go the extra mile,” wrote Pat Bolt, who nominated you.

Dr. Kearns is “One of only a group of caring individuals who teach in the Adult Ed. Program/ Community Service, but all have stories of how she has supported them in some meaningful way,” added Bolt. “She never gives up until she has done everything to make a person’s dream come true!”

Dr. Kearns, as a result of your orderliness, which has enabled you to make people’s dreams come true, we want to thank you for representing Edmond as a “champion of character.”
