To designate the city of Edmond as a city of character through the promotion and development of character traits in all aspects of community life.
Supported in a July 2001 city resolution by Mayor Saundra Naifeh, designating Edmond as a “City of Character,” a board of directors was established to bringing the character message to Edmond. The Council is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization incorporated by the State of Oklahoma since July 2003, and in 2004 was recognized for its exempt status under the Internal Revenue Service Code.
The council is a local Edmond agency comprised entirely of volunteers from different career areas whose focus is reserved for the Edmond area alone. The Board meets the fourth Monday of the month except in December and May.
